Chemical Hazards – Safety campaign in the PH Department
In 2013 the PH Department safety office continues its campaign on hazardous chemical agents.
CERN’s Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Protection Unit (HSE) determine the minimum requirements for the protection of persons relating to the risks of hazardous chemical agents. HSE has a comprehensive set of CERN safety rules and related documents that can be accessed from their web page:
https://espace.cern.ch/Safety-Rules-Regulations/en/rules/byDomain/Pages/chemical.aspx
If your activity involves the use and/or storage of chemicals then you are asked to contact Jonathan Gulley of HSE in order to check that you are working within the HSE rules. If you are not in compliance then you will be asked to do what is necessary in order to become compliant within a certain deadline.
The PH safety office will be working in close collaboration with HSE in order to offer help and assistance to people seeking compliance with the HSE rules.
We have already started to visit PH premises in order to see where and what types of chemical products exist.
If you have chemical agents that you no longer need then you are asked to have them removed and disposed of – the PH safety office can help you with this.
Please note that from the 4th November we will ask for chemical agents to be removed and disposed of where there is no evidence of any effort being made to comply with the HSE rules.
Thank you for your help and cooperation with this ongoing campaign to improve the level of safety relating to hazardous chemical agents.
