Andrej Janchevski

Hello fellow CERN summer students and staff, my name is Andrej Janchevski and I had the opportunity to spend 2 months at CERN as a summer student.
Coming from a small non-member-state country and with a background in computer science I was amazed by everything about this organization since the moment I arrived and my whole perspective of the world changed. This internship programme provides such an unique experience for any student interested in working in the top physics organization in the world: the international environment and diversity, the grand scale of the research, the lecture programme, the work projects, visits…
Definitely, the one thing I will miss the most from my time here are my supervisor and colleagues. My project consisted of developing web applications for the OP group at the ISOLDE control room. The people there are a great team and I was quickly accepted as a part of the wholesome ISOLDE family. As a farewell party, all of us even went together for a few beers after work! I have to applaud CERN for establishing such a stress-free working environment and even though my contribution to CERN may have been relatively small, I am always happy knowing that my work has helped to ease the life of my fellow operators at least. I will never forget my time at ISOLDE.
Lastly, as travelling has always been a hobby of mine, I loved how close CERN is to many attractions and beautiful places to visit. Using every chance to see a different place in France or Switzerland, I had been to Geneva, Lausanne, Annecy, Lyon, Chamonix, Freibourg, Gruyère… As I look back, I am unable to single out one as the best since each has it’s own beauty to be appreciated.
