New Staff Members and Fellows

Emma Kate Anderson
Hello! I’m an Australian physicist, I recently joined CERN as a research fellow. My background includes postdoctoral work with the ALPHA experiment, focusing on antihydrogen studies, and a PhD from Stockholm University, where I conducted experiments with the double storage ring DESIREE. I’m now excited to be contributing to two areas of the EP department: the FASER experiment and pixel sensor development with the ATLAS pixel group.

Joshua Lorne Bendavid
I will be continuing my work on precision electroweak measurements in CMS, building on the recent W mass measurement towards new measurements of the strong coupling constant and Z mass and future measurements of the W mass with even higher precision. In addition, I will be contributing to the CMS High Granularity Calorimeter for the Phase 2 upgrade, focusing on aspects related to data flow, calibration and reconstruction. Finally, I will contribute to physics and detector aspects of FCC-ee, with a focus on tracking detector design and track reconstruction and calibration procedures.

Georgios Christodoulis
During my fellowship at CERN, within the EP-SFT group, I will serve as a core developer of CMVFS—a distributed file system optimized for large-scale software distribution. By the end of my contract, I aim to deliver detailed performance analyses, implement performance-oriented optimizations, introduce new features, incorporate new technologies, and help make the system more reliable, robust, and maintainable.

Pedro Fernandez Manteca
During my fellowship in EP, I will focus on two main research directions at CMS under the supervision of the EP-CMG-OS group. First, I will search for CP violation in ttZ and tZq events with CMS Run-3 data. This effort builds upon previous analyses (https://arxiv.org/abs/2505.21206) and will explore additional topologies, such as ttGamma and/or WZ. Simultaneously, I will explore contrastive learning methods for anomaly detection at the Level-1 Trigger for CMS Phase-2. This approach involves predictive neural networks operating on Particle Flow reconstructed particles, hoping to enhance sensitivity to potential physics signals beyond the Standard Model.

Antonio Jesus Gomez Delegido
Hello! My name is Antonio, and I recently joined CERN as a Research Fellow in EP-ADE-CA, working with the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter team. I coordinate the detector calibration, actively maintaining a stable energy scale and refining our techniques, particularly the laser-based calibration of the calorimeter photomultipliers. During my fellowship I will also help upgrade the laser calibration system for the HL-LHC and contribute to the Run 3 performance studies of TileCal. Looking further ahead, I’m excited to help explore the Higgs sector with the Run-3 dataset.

Jeremie Alexandre Merlin
My name is Jeremie. I’m an experimental physicist focusing on the development and the production of new detector technologies. I’ve been working in the CMS GEM group for 13 years, designing and building the triple-GEM technology for the upgrade of the Muon system. I am now joining the CERN Neutrino Platform as staff physicist. My role is to push to the development of the Charge Readout Planes (CRP) for the DUNE experiment, and later to coordinate the production of the CRP anodes before their installation in the 17.5 ktons liquid argon time projection chamber located 1.5 km underground in South Dakota.

Mustafa Yigit OZDEMIR
I joined the EP-ESE group in April 2022 as a Fellow and, after completing my three-year Fellowship, I am continuing as a Staff member within the CERN Electronics Pool Labs. My work focuses on the maintenance, calibration, and development of electronic systems and equipment used across various experiments. I am involved in projects related to Python-based test sequencer and calibration management software and automated testbench systems for modular and general instrumentation. I collaborate closely with colleagues in the Electronics Pool and other services to deliver reliable technical solutions that support experimental setups and R&D activities across the CERN community.

Arne Reimers
My name is Arne Reimers and I studied physics at University of Hamburg, where I also did my PhD on searches for new physics with CMS. During my postdoc at University of Zurich, I continued searching for new particles and began working on the CMS tracker upgrade for the High-Luminosity LHC. Now that I joined CERN as a Research Fellow in the EP-CMG group, I will work with Josh Bendavid on electroweak precision measurements and the CMS high-granularity calorimeter. I am excited to be on board!

Gediminas Sapris
Hello, I am Gedas, a new LHCb Research Fellow. I recently celebrated 10 years as a CERN user. Over the past decade, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of LHCb analyses, covering a wide range of physics topics—from Very Rare Decays to the identification of Helium and the observation of Anti-Hypertriton. During my fellowship at CERN, I plan to focus on Charm CP violation and (hopefully) achieve the first single-channel observation of Charm CPV. I also serve as the Lithuanian ACCU representative and am actively involved in multiple outreach activities both within and outside CERN.
