With a view of the snowy Alps on one side and magnificent Jura on the other, was my office at CERN, which is known for maintaining not only the hottest but also the coldest temperatures on earth; a place that fires bunches of protons at nearly the speed of light along the 27km huge circular ring! I was a part of the ROOT software development team of the Experimental Physics Software (EP-SFT) department and was supervised by Jakob Blomer. ROOT is a software framework for data analysis and I/O; a powerful tool to cope with the demanding tasks typical of the state of the scientific data analysis. The aspect of ROOT dealt with in my project was the error handling interface, specifically in the I/O components. Here’s a little more about the project: http://cds.cern.ch/record/2686744.

The CERN Summer Student Internship has been a humbling experience which gave me 9 weeks of unforgettable memories full of learning & excitement in this very dynamic place. I've not only learnt the programming aspects necessary to develop such softwares but have also had deep insightful experiences with great scientists. I greatly appreciate and admire the encouragement I have got from my supervisor who spent his time to break things down in order to help me understand my tasks. The Students Welcome Drink Party, Saturday Barbeque Nights, Farewell Parties, Weekend trips were great opportunities to socialize with people from all around the globe! I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Summer Student Teams for making this possible for me 🙂
